The recent suicides of designer Kate Spade and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain remind us of the tragedy of suicide. Mental-health experts know the warning signs that someone is going to take their own life. Managers should look for suicidal warning signs, such as aggression, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and loss of interest. (See attached.) Then, managers should ask employees if they're depressed, or even if they're thinking about killing themselves. If they say they are, refer them to human resources, a therapist, or doctor.
