I have a 2002 Mitsubishi diamante vr-x, car was running fine till I turned into a parking lot. The car cut off and would not start, mechanic checked the fuel pump, the pump pumps when I try to start it but stops pumping when the engine isn't trying to start. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Check out this article for an explanation of the importance of timing belt replacement.
In ChiltonDIY for the 2002 Diamante, follow this PATH: Engine Mechanical > Timing Belt > Removal & Installation
Timing belt was changed less than 6 months ago with no problems. Thinking it may be the ignition switch, changing it tomorrow. Has to be an electrical problem somewhere.
Does it have an inertia switch?
