1996 Chevy IROC Radiator Pressure & over heating issue

  • I just bought a 1986 Chevy Camaro Iroc and when I take the radiator cap off cold and start the car, it runs perfect, but after a while it starts gushing hot water out the radiator cap hole!

Need help as I have leukemia and very limited on funds, so don't want to waste money!

    Help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Thank you in advance

  • Hi there, thank you for reaching out.

There could be many problems here from a clogged cooling system to a stuck thermostat and more.

Is the Camaro a 1986 or 1996? Your post title says 1996 and the question says 1986.

Is the engine overheating when the coolant gushes out or does the temperature gauge read normal?
Is the coolant mixture correct? (Is there excessive rust? Do you have the right balance of coolant and water? Do you have the right amount of coolant?)
Do you know how old the radiator cap is? If the cap is old and can’t hold pressure, when the coolant heats up and expands, it’ll blow right past the cap.
