The 2010 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics--or rather The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred
Nobel--2010 has been awarded to three economists "for their analysis of markets with search frictions." Peter Diamond, of MIT, Dale Mortensen of Northwestern, and Christopher Pissarides of the London School of Economics, were recognized for their work on the links between economic policies and unemployment--work that is all too relevant these days. Of course, some of that work has been so relevant in today's US political climate as to be controversial, Peter Diamond had his nomination to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors blocked (President Obama has since nominated Diamond again).
