Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics recipient Elinor Ostrom gave this whiteboard presentation titled "Sustainable development: going beyond the tragedy of commons" at the Stockholm Resilience Centre earlier this year. "When humans have ownership rights " in common, they find ways of making natural resources sustainable, Ostrom's research finds, and "they grow trust in one another." This is exactly the work that The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences highlighted in awarding Prof. Ostrom the prize.
