Here's a great story of a 5-year-old boy learning lessons about long term debt, mortgages, and consumption, from a video game, as told by the 5-year-old's father: Ian Bogost.  Bogost teaches at Georgia Tech, designs video games, and writes about the power of vidoe games.  He says his son's experience with the game Animal Crossing turns the conventional wisdom about video-games-as-escapist-entertainment on its head:
