Green Jobs on the Rise

With the House passing the Climate Plan on Friday, there have been a number of articles on the potential growth of green jobs. Oregon reports that 3% of their workforce are employed in green industries and they expect the number of green jobs to grow by 14% by 2010. Michigan also reports 3% of their workforce is employed in green jobs with the potential for more growth in their recently released and detailed green jobs report. Additionally states, like Arizona are looking to tap into the $500 million in grants available through the stimulus package to create a more green workforce. And Toledo's efforts to transform it's economy and create new jobs by becoming a leader in solar energy are well documented.

Here's a recent CNN news story on the impact of wind energy on creating new jobs across the country.

Online Courses Gaining Acceptance...Rapidly

Interesting article from Reuters discussing the growing acceptance of for-profit online courses amongst students, employers, and recruiters. The article also makes an interesting assertion about the growth of online for-profit education and the performance of for profits overall compared to traditional post-secondary education:

However, analysts believe online education companies will fare better than traditional post-secondary education companies and, in the long term, will outperform the overall sector. "For-profit online post-secondary education is at a sweet spot of education from a growth perspective," Barrington's Alexander Paris Jr said.

"Online for-profit will grow faster than for-profit. And for-profit will grow faster than traditional post-secondary education," he added.

Interesting article in the Stamford Adovocate on the impact of 4LTR Press on student engagement and outcomes.

David Fearon noticed a difference in his students soon after their first classroom assignment. They were more willing to participate and their test scores improved.
